Kopke Vintage 2016 is a majestic expression of traditional Port winemaking, crafted from a selection of the finest grapes from the Douro Valley. This Port is known for its depth and intensity, made predominantly from indigenous grape varietals including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca. The terroir of the Douro Valley, with its steep, terraced vineyards and schist soils, contributes to the wine’s unique character. Kopke utilizes traditional foot-treading in granite ‘lagares’ for fermentation, preserving the bold fruit flavors. After fermentation, the wine matures in large oak barrels for a few years before bottling, allowing it to develop complexity while retaining its vibrant fruit profile. The 2016 vintage is particularly notable for its balance, structure, and already-approachable palate, earning critical acclaim for its aging potential as well as its immediate pleasure.
